From “Swifties for Trump” to a German foreign minister’s flying penguin: artificial intelligence has entered the political realm. It’s been used particularly extensively in US election campaigns. The content ranges from mockery to disinformation. In an interactive discussion, Franca Lindner and Lisa Meinecke, two experts on American history, address the impact of the political use of AI on the democratic system in the United States. They draw historical comparisons, reveal continuities dating back to the 1970s, and ask how we should we deal with this. A screening of the short film DEATH OF A FANTASTIC MACHINE will start off the discussion.
